In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, Kentucky had the Irishman Creek Fire this weekend to celebrate… it came in at 143 acres and was easily handled by the folks involved. Interesting name for a fire this weekend.
March is the month when we see how the spring fire season will pan out. Florida’s spring season is upon us, and it looks more and more ready each day. Nothing crazy yet, but it’s getting there. Until then, more burning.
Region 3 crews coming on are PT running in some light snow and perm staff on others have been actively burning across the nation. Air attack platforms are getting fired up and shuffled around and Canada staff came to Boise to meet with NIFC folks to hammer out the final details for their cooperative agreement.
It’s getting close, but we always have that chance for a second winter, which is always a possibility this time of year. That being said, burn restrictions have already been put in place for large parts of Canada, so crew and Team migration this early fire season is still on the table. Last year, the major wildfires in Canada started in late April.
So far this year, we have burned 1,409,885 acres. As all this plays out, we might as well get in a workout…
So find yourself a good soundtrack or podcast, and let’s get it done.
