The 24-hour wildfire suppression rule is back and will be voted on after passing committee. This rule has stipulations, but it aims to reduce managed fires across National Forest Lands during periods of drought and high fire danger.
The same legislation also sets policy for when Firing Ops can be initiated for wildfires and when prescribed fires can be conducted.
Idaho votes down additional wildfire funding, claiming wildland firefighter bonuses were improperly issued.
Idaho Department of Lands refutes the claims of how the bonuses were paid, and says that in 2026, the wildfire fund is so depleted that they will be fighting fires on a credit card.
Wyoming Fire Chiefs are pushing for legislation to be passed that would add Hazard Pay for wildland firefighters in the state. They are also pushing for paid leave, benefits, cancer screening, and funding for more crews.
Oregon Senator writes a letter to the Forest Service Chief, demanding answers about staffing.
