Helicopter Crashes Into Merrill Lake While Doing Bucket Work in Washington State.
Pilot swims to shore.
A helicopter crashed into Merrill Lake in the State of Washington on Wednesday. The helicopter was working on the Kalama fire when the incident happened. The ship was in on the dip when the helicopter went down. The pilot was able to exit the craft and swim to shore. After medical personnel looked over the pilot they were taken to the hospital with “no life threatening injuries”. It is still unknown why the helicopter went down.
The Kalama fire is a small 4 acre incident on the southside of Mount Saint Helens. It’s burning above a small cliff band and resources had been utilizing bucket work because access to the fire has been difficult. An investigation is underway to determine the reason for the crash.
Aviation accidents seem to be on the rise this year. This was a scary accident that thankfully wasn’t as bad as it could have been. Stay heads up, there is a lot of season left.
