Injuries Start To Stack Up On California Fires. Another Tree Strike and "Unknown Illness" As We Move To A PL5.
If you have ever worked on the Klamath NF or the Salmon-Challis NF, you know these types of fire environments are stupid steep. It’s almost a given that someone is going to get hurt when operating in these areas. We also hit a PL5 in mid-July, and resources are already strained across the country working nonstop in the Summer heat, causing numerous firefighters to fall ill with heat-related illnesses.
The Shelly Fire has had a handful of injuries already, such as dislocated shoulders, heat injuries, and firefighters losing consciousness on the line that are being described as unknown illnesses. A scary one occurred on the 13th of July with a Hotshot crew member.
