Investigation Finds 56% Of Wildfire Vehicles Don’t Have Safety Inspections. Also, Did The Forest Service Lose Their Retardant Contract?!

Memo says 2024 contract suspended after protest…

On Today’s Show:

  • An inspector general investigation found that over half of wildfire vehicles in the Department of Interior don’t have proper safety and maintenance records.

  • The BLM, BIA, NPS, and FWS were all audited for safety and maintenance reports and one Bureau only had 6% of their fleet properly checked.

  • The Bureau that did the best… the BLM.

  • More trouble in the retardant world. A formal protest was filed for “sole contract issuance.”

  • The protest has suspended the current 2024 retardant contract.

  • Now, “on-call” retardant is only available at a much higher cost.

  • Aviation folks have no idea how long the “protest” suspension will last.

  • Plus, an update on critical training injuries around the nation.
