An inspector general investigation found that over half of wildfire vehicles in the Department of Interior don’t have proper safety and maintenance records.
The BLM, BIA, NPS, and FWS were all audited for safety and maintenance reports and one Bureau only had 6% of their fleet properly checked.
The Bureau that did the best… the BLM.
More trouble in the retardant world. A formal protest was filed for “sole contract issuance.”
The protest has suspended the current 2024 retardant contract.
Now, “on-call” retardant is only available at a much higher cost.
Aviation folks have no idea how long the “protest” suspension will last.
