Monday Morning Workout: Break Yourself Off, Or Someone Else Will.
Find a wall and break it down.
One of the things all wildland firefighters get nervous about is getting broken off, whether it’s a workout during Jumper rookie training, a PT hike on a Hotshot crew, or sprints during an Indian run with your engine. So, how do you help alleviate these concerns and nerves? It’s pretty straightforward… break yourself off before you get there.
Mental toughness, especially during physical activity, comes with experience and practice. You literally have to find the walls your mind has made and break them down. The folks you see crushing the PT hikes without any worries while you struggle with internal thoughts are so mentally tough you can't even cut it with a steak knife.
I can help provide ways to get to the walls that test you mentally, but only you can break them down. Let’s start the week off right and push ourselves both physically and mentally.
So find yourself a good soundtrack or podcast, and let’s get it done.
Get loose and dynamic stretch until warmed up. If you need to adjust some of these numbers, that’s ok; just push yourself.
Round 1: Three Times
