Slow days can drive a wildland firefighter insane. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes they can be nice, but multiple days in a row can wear on a person. I would always break up the day by doing planks and pushups when the weather was read over the radio hourly on slow days, and seemed to help.
I always kept a kettlebell on the truck, which this workout uses. It’s a circuit you can do at the buggies if you’re slowly losing it on a slow day. Or if you’re on days off, it’s still a great workout to move the body around.
Find yourself a good podcast or soundtrack.
Get loose and do some dynamic stretching.
