Dumb question: Why are government agencies buying from foreign countries and why aren't they checking for compliant equipment before issuing to firefighters?

Have we missed something important about the acquisition process?

I believe the significant issues that have been found are with private companies procuring shelters, not on the fed side. But this is the reason for the safety bulletin. An industry-wide check to ensure everyone has the right gear.

Wondering whether we should rethink procurement procedures regarding private companies that provide equipment to government employees. Glad they are doing these safety checks BEFORE any tragedy occurred.

Sure do appreciate your work!

Based on the "No Coincidences Principle," I'm calling bulls**t on the "NWCG clearly states that while these counterfeit shelters have been found on multiple incidents this year, none have been involved in entrapments or deployments" statement.

They were found in quality assurance (QA) checks, so yes, this is a real thing and validates contract/compliance checks. But believe what you want to believe.
