The Feds Started the Calf Canyon Fire... Was it Then Used to Push a Federal Policy Agenda?
Never let a crisis go to waste...
Now a few things before I dive into this shitstorm of a topic. This article is intended to create discussion on the hypocrisy, the double think created by the media, and Government statements revolving around the Calf Canyon Fire. I understand this is a spicy subject but no other publication will touch this matter so I decided to present the debate. The goal is that, this is a debate. I won’t have final definitive conclusions since there is still a lot to be discovered. However, I will offer an interesting view of how the story evolved when these fires first started and how the finely crafted narrative for “change” and “new policy” was nurtured up until this point.
I will be the first person to say that I believe using fire as a tool to manage forest ecosystems is necessary. However, we know now that both the Hermits Peak fire and the Calf Canyon fire in New Mexico were Government burns. The massive media push for “new policy” due to climate driven fires in New Mexico actually were both Government creations. Now… before you all jump in the comment section… yes, climates change. There are places on Earth that are warmer then they used to be and there are places that are colder then they used to be. Earth has a changing and dynamic environment. That’s not the discussion here. The discussion is “were escaped Government burns used to push federal policy change?”. What we do know is that crises have been used in the past by many Administrations from both parties to push policy change. Did that occur here?
This administration came into office with a well known policy agenda on Energy and Climate. Outspoken Secretaries of many Government Agencies had a consistent message on the policy agenda. However, polls started to show that Americans were starting to worry about other issues they found more pressing. Inflation, cost of housing, and other concerns overtook the admitted keystone policy agenda of this Administration.
So the question I present is this. Was the Calf Canyon fire knowingly used to push and reignite popular opinion for this policy agenda? Was there a delay in releasing the cause of the fire to extend this window of opportunity? Many folks have known for at least a month the pile burn that has now been admitted as the cause, was most likely the ignition source. I have noticed headlines in just 24 hours change from the Calf Canyon was “caused” by climate change to the Calf Canyon is “worsened” by climate change. A slight but noticeable adjustment.
A flurry of articles from authors and publications that frequently cover this type of policy started calling for legislative change and more government money because of this fire.
Publications that have Government grant money and taxpayer money started to blame the environment for this fire and push a fear based narrative. This now just days before the Feds released their findings.
All of these widely spread articles based their stories off the fires in New Mexico. Both now known to be caused by Federal ignitions.
Forest Service Chief Randy Moore just recently spoke about the new policy push at the FIRE AND CLIMATE CONFERENCE this week. The news of the Calf Canyon fire came out very close to when he spoke. The International Association of Wildland Fire who put on this conference references the World Economic Forum’s studies and white papers in their own policy position paper. The WEC has been behind the UN Global Wildfire Policy Papers and penned “The Great Reset”. The policy paper that has caused quite a stir the last year. I did not get the invite to this conference but other approved wildfire media folks and podcasters were…
Many political figures in the Federal Government used these fires as a launching pad for new talking points for policy change. When in actuality their employer started
