This weekend, we saw multiple new starts down in Arizona, and this morning, the entire state of New Mexico is blanketed in Red Flag Warnings. Southwest crews are slowly filling resource orders with Flagstaff and Blue Ridge Hotshots on the Wolf Fire, Mesa and Payson Hotshots on the Horse Fire, Sacramento Hotshots wrapping up the Oakmont Fire, and Mount Taylor Hotshots are out putting some good fire on the ground.
A busy week in the Southwest, and it could be off to the races. The Little Yamsay Fire in Oregon is keeping folks busy as well, with 4 Shot Crews committed or reserved for that incident. We are at that hurry-up-and-wait phase of the season as everyone starts going available, but it’s only a matter of time. Temps in Albuquerque are in the 80s, and the RH has come down into the teens, with winds pushing 25mph today.
All the way up north, The British Columbia Smoke Jumpers had their first operational jump this weekend, jumping into a small fire on a beautiful sunny day. McCall jumpers are going available as well in Idaho, so the bros are ready to fill some orders when the call comes.
The hardest part about this time in the season… don’t get bored waiting for the call. Dial everything in, keep it tight, and maintain that readiness.
So, on that note, let’s get a workout in and start the week off right.
Find yourself a good soundtrack or podcast, and let’s get it done.
