I was also on the West Fork Fire in Colorado when I heard about Granite Mountain. As FOBS I was tasked with gathering photos and information about the large second homes for a mitigation book. I was told to ignore the multitude of trailer homes hidden in the woods where folks lived years ago round. I’ll never forget the column over the Papoose Fire up by Creede, with the towering dome of ice crystals on top and the FBAN who had predicted Groundhog Day with little fire growth that day with his mouth hanging open. “I’ll never say that again,” he told me.
Suspect in Idaho Ambush Identified, Along With 2 Firefighter Victims. Authorities have now identified the alleged shooter as 20-year-old Wess Roley, a transient who had been living out of his vehicle in the area. By Rudy Blalock (07/01/25, may require Epoch Times subscription): tinyurl.com/2xkda7rr

As a mother of a Hotshot back then, I was sick with fear for several days until I learned that my son and his crew were safe at another location. May Peacebeinall of those grieving this day.
