Surprised this is making the headlines it is. I mean i totally support it but USFS has been experimenting with this for 2 years with the DART program. I love the guy making the DropBlock but its waaaay to big to carry. Much better tech out there. https://www.cofiretech.org/feature-projects/team-awareness-kit-tak
My experience is 20 years old, as a contractor based in BC Canada but deployed to Washington for part of the season. We were amazed amount of people involved in a fire fighting. We worked on a fire maybe 500 acres that had 300+ people working it, in conjection with 2-3 dedicated helos. Versus BC where we would have maybe 100 or less but any where from 5-10 helos.
Also they used det cord to blast line which seemed alittle over the top.
Again this was a one time experience so no idea if it was a unique situation or not.
Also a kmax crashed at that fire which was extremely sobering and our crew spent 2 days GPSing parts and carrying them out of the bush.
And i could go back even further...https://youtu.be/L4WMApuXZuU
