Weekly Wildfire Update: A Conversation with Chief Randy Moore, Why That's Important. Canadair Scooper Crashes, Two Pilot Fatalities. Are Firefighters Becoming Desensitized to Death? Operational Update
Heard the pod last night, i say with regard to those that have said to you,”why waste your time or bother with it”, or to not even try, you don’t need those folks advice at all and id advocate to not even give color.
Something is amiss in the federal service and it appears the government in my optics never says what it means and never means what it says. Then things will change but the leadership never or rarely conveys the changed state to the boots. After a while you now have two problems to deal with, a loss of trust in from the boots and now the appearance management does not care of its folks contrary to what they say. And this is only a single example of a plethora of issues and can lead to those that told you why bother, stop wasting your time, its pointless, because the brass has already exhibited its desire to consider its folks. Does not have ti be true it is how it appears to them.
The political climate of chief moore as an example is apples and oranges to the boots and not even on the same battlefield. Many think that pay grade means extra smarts and therefor should have the answers, lol right. Those smarts have to start at the lower levels and move up and our training is stagnate contrary to belief.
My view is if you or anyone feels something is worthy and should be moved up the pole and will benefit other fft’s, then just do it. Ignore the defeatist mindset as you mentioned. I agree we do not need it.
Lastly my view is the boots are far wiser than they realize or give themselves credit for and if someone makes it to the top but does not have the discernment as someone farther down down the line, then what do you see happening systemically?
