re ; prescribed burns; we had a range tech (prairie fairy) accompany us with a camera, after kidding their supervisor that we knew how to take pictures too, he told us it was a “make work” give um out of the office deal. Yup, like the FMO taking daily helicopter rides to use up contracted flight hours

Fascinating. Personally from my perspective the number of hours for training is NOT the solution nor half of the solution as it relates to aircraft. On the ground side, we as a Federal Industry fail at training folks from boots to engines to aircraft that cooling effect MUST be matched to the Heat generated output of the fire. Until that happens, nothing takes shape. Until we start training people about BTU to GPM or GPS ratios and relationships, its a wasted effort. I teach and advocate all the time during academies that unless you can deliver the amount of cooling agent that the FIRE DEMANDS, your efforts will largely be wasted. Especially in Aircraft when we do this single load and return stuff. We stopped training Engineers and have this mentality of "We're wildland not structure we don't need that" and we see the results. its all BTU loading and BTU absorption and until you can match it, its not going to change anything. Engineers trained in BTU loading, and absorption can tell you what you need and contrary to popular belief there is less heat absorption per pound of retardant than straight water.

(10-17-22)Forgot, I did enjoy the audio very much and as a result of a former coworker sending me your link, I paid for a subscription on the first listen. I like the format, the two side approach and the mellow tone. You are objective in your thought process and delivery and that is a breath of fresh air. As of right now it is the ONLY podcast I subscribe and pay for. Cheers.
